How to Frame and Mount Your Artwork

If you've bought a swanky piece of art but aren't quite sure how best to frame and mount it, you're in the right place! In this quick guide, we’ll walk you through the entire process, from choosing the right frame size to mounting on your wall like a pro.

Step 1: Choose the Right Frame Size

So, you’ve got your Plantish art print and it’s time to frame it up. Let’s make sure your masterpiece looks amazing on your wall (and ready for your Insta feed). The good news is our prints come in standard sizes, so finding a frame won’t require a scavenger hunt through the depths of the internet.

Before you choose your frame, double check the dimensions of your print either through your order details, or size it up with a tape measure/ruler/banana (jk). A quick check now = zero framing fails later.

Step 2: Choose the Right Frame Style

The frame style absolutely sets the tone for how the artwork integrates with your décor - obviously choose what you like but here's a couple of pointers if you want some inspo:

Make sure the frame material is nice and sturdy and preferably comes with UV-protective glass - this will shield your print from sunlight and keep it looking fresh for years!

Step 3: Frame the Artwork

Now it’s time to assemble your masterpiece:

  1. Prepare the Frame: Pop it face down on a clean and flat surface, niiiice and gently (you wouldn't want to scuff your lovely new frame right?).
  2. Insert the Print: If you’re using a mat board, centre the print on the back of the mat, securing it with archival or masking tape (avoid regular tape, as it can damage the print). Position your print within the frame and try to keep it straight.
  3. Secure the Backing: Ensure the back panel is firmly in place, using the clips or latches provided.

Pro Tip: If you plan to switch out art frequently, consider using a frame with easy-open tabs - your fingertips will thank you!

Step 4: Select the Perfect Spot

Find a wall that allows your print to shine without being overwhelmed by other décor.

  • Lighting: Choose a spot with soft, indirect light to avoid fading. For rooms with natural light, consider installing UV-protective film on windows or pick up a UV protected frame.
  • Height: Hang the artwork at eye level. The centre of the print should be roughly 57-60 inches (145-152cm) from the floor for optimal viewing - this is just a rough guide, so if you're very tall or very short (like us) this will be slightly different.

Step 5: Mount Your Framed Print

To get your beautiful artwork onto the wall:

  1. Mark the Spot: Use a pencil and a level to mark where the frame will hang.
  2. Choose the Right Hardware:
    • Light Frames: Use adhesive hooks or nails.
    • Heavy Frames: Opt for wall anchors or picture-hanging wire.
  3. Install the Mounts: Drive the nails, hooks, or anchors into the wall at the marked spots.
  4. Hang the Frame: Align the hanging hardware on the back of the frame with the mounts, then gently place the frame on the wall. You can actually hook a fork onto the nail and use that as a guide to slide the frame on too (saw that one on Tiktok).

Pro Tip: Step back and assess the placement from different angles to ensure it’s straight and balanced. Then you can step back and marvel at what an awesome job you've done!

Step 6: Maintain and Enjoy

To keep your Plantish print looking fresh:

  • Dust Regularly: Use a microfibre cloth to clean the frame and glass - nobody wants a dusty frame!
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure can fade the vibrant colours of your art.

By following these steps, you’ll maximise the impact of your print while preserving its quality for years to come. Whether you’re showcasing a botanical piece or a minimalistic design, the perfect frame and placement will ensure your Plantish art fits seamlessly into your life.
